Daily Devotion of Psalm 19

Daily Nugget:
Here, David’s Psalm points out three important truths about God and what He has done.

1. In Psalm 19 verses 1-6, we are reminded of God’s wonderful creation. We see it every day, and there is no real explanation for all we see except God made it.

Our sky and the contents of outer space show us what God has done (vs. 1). Just having a day and night by simple planet movements should have most in awe and amazement for what God has done.

Man’s science may think they have an explanation for all that is around, but it is usually just unproven theories. Often their ideas violate their laws, are always changing, reject what God has said, and is sometimes a theory accepted by people that have rejected what God said in the Bible. Many times the creator of an explanation on what surrounds us is from one that has rejected that there is a God.

2. Verses 7-11 recalls the wonderful Word of God that He has preserved for us to know His will and way. His words are:

  • Perfect (vs. 7), and that means without error!
  • So powerful and life-changing that even the eternal destination of one’s soul can be changed (vs. 8).
  • His laws are always right! Obeying them will not save anyone, but they will teach one what God says is right (vs. 8) and wrong and that we may be saved.
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” Gal. 3:24
  • Important for us to respect (vs. 9) the Lord.
  • Are more valuable (vs. 10) than any earthly “treasure.”
  • A warning to us (vs. 11).
  • Important to be kept as doing so will bring great reward (vs. 11) to the doer.

3. Verses 12-14 make it clear that God does not give us what we deserve. He gives His grace. He is patient, will clean us from our sin (vs. 12), will help us keep from sin (vs. 13), will assist us to speak the way we should, and will help our thinking (vs. 13).

These three proofs of who God is, his guidance He left to lead us in the right direction, and His undeserved favor should make each of us grateful. Unfortunately, so many miss seeing what God has done for us and how He helps us daily.

Today’s Thought:
“May we not worry but believe in Thee, our Great Parent.” — Bunjiro

Words to Understand:
Fear: deep respect
Firmament: expanse of sky, the arch of the sky
Grace: undeserved favor, kindness, and love
Heavens: there are three “heavens” spoken of in the Bible: the “heaven” where the birds fly, the “heaven” of outer space, and the Heaven where God dwells.

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 19
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
