Daily Devotion of Psalm 123

Daily Nugget:
Psalm 121 focused on the excitement a Hebrew pilgrim experienced as He approached the city of worship, Jerusalem. Psalm 122 expressed the joy as a believer saw the place of worship, the Temple. Psalm 123 shares the root of why the worshippers were excited. It was God, they were anxious to be nearer.

Their faith was not based on any one place, but to the God of all. He was the One they loved, respected, and the One to whom they desired to be closer.

Today should be no different. Church is wonderful. It is a place to be encouraged, serve God, and a place to receive spiritual food, and blessings. The saved members are part of our spiritual family; it should be a blessing to be around them. However, the real reason we should be excited about church attendance is that we can hear from God and worship Him.

Is that the real reason you are going to church? Hopefully, you are not just attending so you can have fellowship, meet pretty girls, get more business contacts, get rid of your guilt from not have any relationship with the Lord all week, or show how spiritual you are. You should be attending because, although you have prayed and spent time in God’s Word all week, it is another place you can hear from God and be closer to Him. Is that the reason you attend?

Today’s Thought:
“Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Deuteronomy 6:5

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 123
1 A Song of degrees. Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
