Daily Devotion of Psalm 122

Daily Nugget:
“A Song of degrees of David. I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1

As Israel made their pilgrimage to Israel, they were excited as Jerusalem came into focus. They were delighted when they were able to see and enter the Temple area. It was there sacrifices were given to God, and worship of Him was done. The Temple was the center of Jewish worship.

Because of what Jesus did for all sinners, we no longer need the Temple in Jerusalem to be our focal point of worship. One trusting Christ as their one-time sacrifice for their iniquities no longer must have a Temple priest perform a blood sacrifice to temporarily have one’s sins forgiven. Jesus is now their “high priest” (Hebrews 4:14).

Although we do not have to journey to the Temple in Jerusalem, there is a place we can go to hear the Word of God read, listen to a message God has given to a local spiritual shepherd, sing praises to Him, and fellowship with other like-minded believers. That place is the local Bible-believing and Bible-obeying church. As important as it is to attend the church and not forsake assembling there (Heb. 10:25), the church is not the House of God.

During this dispensation, the Temple of God is now the born-again child of God. We believers are now the dwelling place of the Spirit of God.
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” I Corinthians 3:16
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” I Cor. 6:19
“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” II Cor. 6:16-18 Also: Eph. 2:21-22, I Peter 2:4-6.

Most of the Jews, although they worshipped the true and living God, did not have the opportunity we have to be daily close to the Spirit of God as we do. We are privileged.

However, with this special closeness we have with God, comes much responsibility. We are to keep our temple clean from sin, should not grieve the indwelling Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:30), obey His will and way, and bring honor to the One that dwells in us. Are you living up to those responsibilities and are a good testimony for the One you represent?

Today’s Thought:
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” I Peter 2:9

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 122
1 A Song of degrees of David. I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
