Daily Devotion of Psalm 121

Daily Nugget:
“A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help” Psalm 121:1.

As many pilgrimaged to the Temple in Jerusalem, they knew they were nearing their destination when they saw the many hills that surrounded the place of worship. However, it was not the hills that helped them in their time of need (Psalm 121:1). It was God on the other side of the hilly terrain that was their benefactor. It was Him that they were anxious to see and be near. It was the great God and Creator that was their help.
“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2).

God had proven Himself worthy to relied upon repeatedly to the people of Israel. They experienced that God:

  • Would lead them in the right direction. He would always guide them in the way He desired them to live, experience, and serve Him (Psalm 121:3) if they allowed Him to do so.
  • Never slept and was always alert and attentive to His people’s needs (Psalm 121:3-4).
  • Was the keeper of His people no matter what physical dangers they faced (Psalm 121:5-6).
  • Was the one that would help them through spiritual dangers they faced (Psalm 121:7).
  • Was the one that would keep them safe no matter where they were. He promised to do this FOREVER (Psalm 121:8)!

The security that God gave Israel often made them confident and secure. Today’s Christians can also realize the same assurance. God promised never to leave or forsake His own. If you are His own, then you also can rest knowing that you are safe within His hands.
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Heb. 13:5

Today’s Thought:
“Let the nail-pierced hands do the steering in your life, and you will be safe!” — Author Unknown

Words to Understand:
Slumber: sleep

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 121
1 A Song of degrees. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
