Daily Devotion of Psalm 113

Daily Nugget:
Psalm 113 gives God the glory and praises the Lord. According to J. Vernon McGee, this Psalm was most likely sung “at the Passover Feast, the Feast of Pentecost, the Feast of Tabernacles, and other feasts.” Even today, in this church age, all worship services and private devotions should also praise the Lord.

Repeatedly, in Psalms and other books of the Bible, praising the Lord is an integral part of worship. Commending God for what he has done, showing our gratitude, and giving Him credit for His works is so important.

I always wondered if more would praise God properly, would much of man-made false doctrines, that infests wrong thinking and unbiblical religions, disappear? When He is glorified, the way He should be, most notions that man can live without following His commandments and without God’s help will
vanish.

Praising God gives us the proper perspective that we can do little without His guidance and assistance. Giving Him credit is a humbling that admits we can do so little ourselves. It also reveals that we need Him and should rely on Him. He can change situations, heal broken bodies, mend shattered relationships, curtail sin, and do what we think is impossible.

Continual praising God for His goodness and deeds keeps our dependence on Him in focus. Praising Him reminds us how much we need Him.

Today’s Thought:
“Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8 Also: Psalm 107:15, 21, 31.

Words to Understand:
Barren: without having children
Dunghill: toilet; low estate

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 113
1 ¶ Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.
4 The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
