Daily Devotion of Psalm 92
Daily Nugget:
Although this
particular song was attended to be sung on the Sabbath, today’s believers that now
worship on Sunday also need to practice what this Psalm teaches. We need to be thankful for all God has done
and will do for us.
“A Psalm or
Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD,
and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:” Psalm 92:1
We are quick to
ask help and blessings from God, but we are
lax in being grateful for what He has done. Thank him for what He has accomplished through the day
(vs. 2). Be happy for the victories He
has allowed you to have (vs. 4). God is great, and we would have nothing if it
were not for His great works in our lives (vs. 5).
Unfortunately, many
take what God has given them and what He has allowed them to accomplish for
granted. One can watch some
of them in a restaurant after their food is served
dive into their meals like animals (“brutish” — vs. 6). Never do they stop at all to thank God for
the food and the money to purchase it.
There are also
foolish folks (vs. 6) who attribute all that they see on this glorious Earth to
the mythical, unproven “theory of evolution.
Some explain the Earth’s existence, and all that is found on it was formed by accident. They certainly do no praise or thank Him for
much, if anything. Despite the intellect
they claim, they have no understanding
of what God has done (vs. 6).
We have so much
for which to be grateful. We quickly see
how much God has adorned us with if any of it is taken away. When
some health is loss, we realize how blessed we were to have better health most
of our lives. When the ability to not be
able to buy what we want is loss, we finally realize what God allowed us to have
for so many years.
Do not be like the
“brutish” folks, the foolish, or for circumstances to change for the worse
before you see what God has allowed you to have and do. Be grateful now. Be thankful for His goodness in your life.
Today’s
Thought:
"Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and
for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8 Also
Psalm 107:15,21, 31.
Words to Understand:
Brutish: a person governed by animalistic cravings and
desires; without normal sensibilities and logic.
Flourish:
prosper
Today’s Reading:
Psalm 92
1 A
Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto
the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
2 To shew
forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
3 Upon an
instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn
sound.
4 For
thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of
thy hands.
5 O LORD,
how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
6 A
brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
7 ¶ When
the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do
flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
8 But
thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.
9 For,
lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers
of iniquity shall be scattered.
10 But my
horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with
fresh oil.
11 Mine
eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my
desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
12 The
righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in
Lebanon.
13 Those
that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our
God.
14 They
shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
15 To
shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness
in him.
