Daily Devotion of Psalm 87

Daily Nugget:
Zion is the highest point in Jerusalem. The world’s government will be centered there during the millennial (1,000 year) reign of Christ.
“The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.”Isaiah 2:1-2

God loves Zion (vs. 2). It is referred to as the City of God (vs. 3). That should be taken into consideration when Muslims attempt to take it for their false religion.

Zion will be the place where God will choose to dwell and certainly is not a place that will house false doctrines. However, during Christ’s reign, it will be a place that many nations will be united to God. It will not be anything like the place it is today.
“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD. 11 And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee.” Zech. 2:10-11

Under Christ’s leadership, many nations that have been at odds with Israel will become citizens there. These new occupants of Jerusalem will include:

  • Egyptians (“Rahab”),
  • Babylonians (Philistines),
  • Phoenicians (from Tyre),
  • And Ethiopians (vs. 4).

During Christ's reign in Jerusalem, there will be a different atmosphere in Jerusalem than there is today. The violence and tension to take the city away from the Jews that are in their God-given land will be removed. Joy and rejoicing will return to Jerusalem when Jesus reigns from that city.
“As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.” Psalm 87:7

Today’s Thought:
“At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.” Jeremiah 3:17

Words to Understand:
Babylon: This Hebrew word means “confusion,” and is a town where the language of the people were changed to confuse the people (Gen. 11:9) and to stop the building of a building that was intended to reach Heaven.
Rahab: some claim that this “Rahab” is referring to Egypt not to Rahab the Harlot.

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 87
1 A Psalm or Song for the sons of Korah. His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
4 ¶ I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.
5 And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.
6 The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.
7 As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.
