Daily Devotion of Psalm 33

Daily Nugget:

Being on God’s winning side as a Christian certainly should be something with which one should be happy. Those that are saved and forgiven are “righteous” (vs. 1) in God’s eyes. We have no reason to be pooch-lipped and showing our dissatisfaction on being a child of God.

As this Psalm by an unknown author suggests, we need to be happy about being one of God’s children by:

  • Rejoicing (vs. 1). A person saved by the sacrificial blood of Christ has something worth being glad about. He is on God’s winning side.
  • Praising Him for His goodness to us (vss. 1,2). When the Lord blesses us, we should let others know what He has done. So many have kept what God has done for them private and that is why so many in the world do not see God alive and working in lives. If we do not tell the world about the Lord, who will?
“Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8 Also: Psalms 107:15, 21, 31.
  • Sing a new song (vs. 3). In this hymn, it is referring to music played on instruments and sung. It would be a blessing to be in a church choir or orchestra. However, there is a new song one can sing even if he has no talent for music.

That “song” is showed in one’s changed behavior. One that is born-again has a promise of Heaven, has hope, has a living God’s watch-care, and has God’s guidance through life. The unsaved, observing world should see this reflected in a Christian’s life.
  • Reading and obeying God’s Word that He preserved for us (vss. 4, 6, 10, 11). He hears our prayers and can speak to us as much as we would like to hear him when we read His words in the Bible.

God has done so much for us. We should have lives different than the ungodly. We should be grateful. Wait for His help because it will come (vs. 20) and be joyful because He has helped you many times in the past (vs. 21). He will be the aid you need — again!

Today’s Thought:
“For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.” Psalm 33:21

Words to Understand:
Awe: admiration and respect of a person
Psaltery: a stringed, harp-like instrument
Rejoice: to have much happiness and gladness

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 33
1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
12 ¶ Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
