Daily Devotion of Psalm 20

Daily Nugget:
Although this Psalm is concerning Israel, there is much that applies to us in this church age. One of the verses that teaches a principle that should be remembered today is Psalm 20:7.
“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” Psalm 20:7

Some trust in the things of this world, be they friends, government, cars, job, or their wealth, but can all let you down. Friends can storm off and forsake you over the slightest matter. Governments can be corrupt and self-purposing no matter what they say before the election. Technology can break down. One can lose a long-held job over a simple decision by management. A bank account or investment can quickly be lost, as was experienced during the 2008 financial disaster.
“They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.” Psalm 20:8

However, God “… will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5). His own (“his anointed”) are those that have trusted Christ’s finished work on the Cross for salvation. He promises to take care of them.
“Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.” Psalm 20:6

  • God will “hear thee in the day of trouble.” (vs. 1)
  • A Christian can send for help from God. (vs. 2)
  • A Christian will be joyous when God comes to his rescue (vs. 5). He should then publically give God credit (“banners”) for what He has done.

Wholly trusting in God for all one’s needs is a source that can be relied upon. He will never let you down!

Today’s Thought:
“A life consecrated to God sees all of its tasks as God-appointed.” — Author Unknown

Words to Understand:
Anointed: to pour oil upon, chosen
Banner: a flag to whom the assembled party represents. Example: A Christian flag tells all that those flying the flag are proud Christians.
Selah: stop and meditate on these things, “think about it,” a musical rest
Zion: a mountain in Jerusalem

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 20
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee;
2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion;
3 Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.
4 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
6 ¶ Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
9 Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.
