Daily Nugget in Psalm 128

Daily Nugget:
“A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” Psalm 128:1

Psalm 128 is an excellent chapter for all, including the unsaved, to take to heart. It can guide and change influences in lives.

Verse one states that “every one” that respects and honors (“feareth”) the Lord will have a more pleasant experience. Lives would be different if people followed God’s leadership.

Of course, all must be saved (Romans 10:9) to dwell in Heaven and one day on the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-4), but lives would have more positives than most experience if God were allowed to guide them. There is a blessing for all in following God’s laws and desires.

If people realized that following what God commands is in their best interest, their grief in this life would be lessened. There would be fewer divorces and destroyed families if couples would reserve sex and family building to marriage only. Fewer, if not any, babies would be butchered in abortion because of unwanted or inconvenient births.

Not as many parents would have broken hearts from wayward children if they raised their children according to biblical principles. People would have more respect for themselves and others if they worked rather than living off welfare others are forced to provide. Nations would be more prosperous and moral if leaders were only elected because of their biblical standards and godly testimony. Joy and happiness would fill more lives. There would be less sadness, discontentment, anxiety, hatred, and anger if people just heeded the laws preserved for their benefit. If only people honored our Creator’s intentions, lives and this world would be different.

However, the majority have never read God’s Word, thus they do not know His way and a better influence to have a more fulfilled life. Too many shake their fists at God and ridicule Him.

Instead of following their Creator’s better way, they believe and follow the philosophies and direction that the ungodly are taking. Their leaders are the crowds and popularity rather than God’s way. They have allowed their lives to be miserable and hopeless by following lies and worldly, poor advice, yet they wonder why their lives are in the condition they are.

God’s commandments are designed to help men, not to limit or punish them. If people read, believed, followed, and respected God, their lives would be different. By seeing that God’s way is much better than what man believes may work, more would be saved from Hell and would have God’s promise of an eternity with Him. Hell would be robbed of many of its clueless victims, and Heaven would overflow with the obedient children of God. If only citizens would ”fear” their Creator and heed His commandments.

Today’s Thought:
“One very common error misleads the opinion of mankind: that authority is pleasant and submission painful. In the general course of human affairs, the very reverse of this is nearer the truth. … Obedience is ease.” — Paley

Words to Understand:
Feareth: “To reverence; to have reverential awe; to venerate” — Noah Webster, 1828

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 128
1 A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.
