Daily Devotion in Psalm 16

 

Daily Nugget:
“I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Psalms 16:8-10

As mentioned previously, there are parts of the Psalms that are prophetic. In Psalm 16:8-10, the verses are talking about the then future first coming of the Messiah. New Testament verses refer to these scriptures and reveal that it is talking about Jesus.

Peter in Acts 2:25 referred to some of Psalm 16:8: “ … he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:” He was talking about Jesus when he quoted much of the verse about the Lord:
“For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:” Acts 2:25

In Acts 2:27, Psalm 16:2 is referred to as a prophecy when Jesus led Old Testament saints from Hell, which was different today than it was then (Luke 16:26). The Acts 2 verse talked about Jesus when he led (Ephesians 4:8) the Old Testament saints out of their non-tortuous place in Hell — called “Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:22-26).
“Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” Acts 2:27
“Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” Ephesians 4:8 
“And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;” Luke 16:22
“And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.” Luke 16:26

If there is any doubt that these Psalm 16 verses were speaking of Christ around 1060 B. C., Acts 2: 31 takes away any question and identifies that David prophesied about Jesus. 
“He [David] seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, … 34 … but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,” Acts 2:31-34

Paul also referred to Psalm 16:9 when he revealed David was prophesying about Jesus.
“Wherefore he [David] saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption … 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.” Acts 13:35-7

David, who would be the great, great … grandfather of Jesus, was given some details of what Jesus would do when He came. The Jews, and even those today, have no excuse for not accepting that Jesus Christ is the prophesied Messiah. Jesus came just like David and other Old Testament prophets said He would.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
