Daily Nugget:
Many get discouraged when they start reading the New Testament because they encounter so many “begat”s. When reading Matthew, the family tree in chapter one is avoided “because of the boring stuff” and a more “exciting” part is found and read.
The genealogy of Jesus is there for a reason. Skipping over it is missing essential information that Jesus was not just another baby. His birth was long prophesied.
Matthew 1:1 starts the Gospels out with a vital announcement.
”The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
Jesus’ birth was the fulfillment of a prophecy that “all the nations of the earth” shall be blessed from the offspring of Abraham. This announcement came around 1870 years before Christ was born (Gen. 22:18). Also, in this verse is a second fulfilled prophecy that Jesus would be born from the seed of King David (Jeremiah 23:5-6). That promise was made about 590 B. C. and fulfilled when Jesus was born.
See what happens when you jump over the “boring” stuff”? That verse is one of the main reasons one should realize Jesus was not just an ordinary man. He was a fulfilled promise from our Creator. If it is skipped, one of the most important truths God wants everyone to know would be missed!

18 ¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
