Daily Devotion of Psalm 12

Daily Nugget:
Many today see and hear the similar problem that David bemoaned in Psalm 12. Then and now, it is more difficult to find godly people. So many purpose or claim to be living the way God commands but somewhere they fail (vs. 1) from being and doing as He has instructed.

For many, their fall from living the way their Creator planned is due to the damage done
by their tongues. Their concern and speech are about things that are not fruitful and have little, moral value (vanity — vs. 2). They deceitfully flatter to win those to their fruitless ways, but their true, hidden purpose is to benefit themselves.

Defiantly, they speak what they want with little regard to what their speech will do to others. Their deceitful speech often hurts those involved in their sin (vs. 5)

As above the laws of the land they think they are, the Lord will deal with those ungodly, deceiving people (vs. 3). God has promised he would and what He says will come to pass (vs. 6). God’s promises have been tested through the ages (vs. 6), and His promises will always be kept (vs. 7). Their deceptiveness and flowery speech may fool those around them, but they cannot fool God.

Today’s Thought:
“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting “ Gal. 6:8

Words to Understand:
Sheminith: many believe it is an eight-string instrument
Vanity: useless, valueless, not lasting

Today’s Reading:
Psalm 12
1 To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
